A$AP Rocky Ft. Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, Danny Brown, Action Brason, Big K.R.I.T. - 1 Train

This is a banger and has some of the hottest names in hip hop right now getting down on one track! Lyricist lineup of heavy home run hitters on A$AP Rocky's 1 Train single as the bars roll off left and right. There are not to many times where the combination of different styles of hip hop all on one track.

You have the east coast influence in Action Bronson, A$AP Rocky and Joey Bada$$ they have the street crack hustle addict to their craft of music and making a name for themselves.

Kendrick Lamar brings his west coast flare from the blocks of Compton, as Kendrick snaps off the head some intelligent lyrics of being undercover gangster to survive the jungle of the LA streets.

Big K.R.I.T. and Yelawolf both bring a smoother southern style, with a jaw japper pimp lingo that has a quick tempo but harmonizes well with the track. Danny Brown is typical Danny, as his comedic style takes over the seriousness of the entire track.

Joey Cool - Onslaught

The choppa game coming out of KC MO with Joey Cool only solidified what means to be a true emcee. With his passionate delivery as his talents are truly exposed when Joey goes choppa on the beats. Joey also has the ability to say a lot in his 16 bars and its nothing to sleep all of his lyrics have logical knowledge.

Joey Cool's new album Onslaught LP has been on our radar screen and should be on your playlist today! As for a quality, the production of Onslaught is clearly and professionally done as listeners are more than capable to hear every quick word out of Joey's mouth. A few tracks on the album has interesting hook imagery, with screwed up voices in the back grounds of Joey's hooks gives the album a war like stance and darker side of what Joey Cool music has to slam. Be ready to get on a higher energy level when you bump the Onslaught LP album has the overall sound gives a riot feel, so the title of the album suits Joey Cool.

Make sure to listen to the entire album, but we have a few singles that might be your favorites. Onslaught (Intro) starts the album up with a bang like D-Day as it catches your ear and gets you on the edge of your seat, but there is more in store! Wanted is another joint that is full of energy and has intensity throughout the entire track, Joey's hook is catchy for all to rock too and flow from Joey absolutely stamps his skills in the hip hop game. Check out Militant, and Basically as it features some Kansas City heavy hitters like Steddy P, JL of B.Hood, Yung Prez, Infogates, and Godemis of Ces Cru. The Bombs Interlude is a calming instrumental and Colossal shows Joey Cool's versatility as an artist. There is plenty more so don't miss out!

Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) - I Don't Like 2.0

Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, is at it again, delivering another clutch socially conscious remix of an otherwise ignorant-ass original track - in this case, Chief Keef's "I Don't Like" is the lucky chosen one.

"The Bank of America, I don't like!"

Yasiin gives the listener a rundown of the contemporary issues of society he usually has grievances with and so eloquently laces into his rhymes. Topics that he doesn't like include racism, corporatism, wealth inequality, commercial rap, and the entire rest of the social gamut.

Listen to "I Don't Like 2.0" on soundcloud below or download the track here: I Don't Like Main 2.0.mp3

Mod Sun - Health, Wealth, Success & Happiness

With the Mod Sun show coming up in Lawrence KS, might as well get some music up for you guys to enjoy! Mod Sun brings his wild style to the hip hop table with graceful technical emcee skills. Mod Sun's lighter personality allows for his music to bring positive vibes as listeners heads automatically start to nod as the beat slams. Lyrical Mod Sun is diverse and clearly describes a more optimistic message in his music.

Mod Sun just released a 13 track Ep on soundcloud called Health, Wealth, Success & Happiness. With some of self produced tracks having dope alternative sampling it seems like Mod Sun brings a quality sound as songs like  Where Were You samples Champagne Supernova, also Australia New Zealand Mod Sun raps over a Incubus beat. Got To Be There ft. Meta is another song that proves Mod Sun is seriously a rhyme slayer.  Time To Celebrate was strictly made for his fans as it was suppose to be a single for purchase instead Mod Sun wanted to give it to his fans for free and included it on this Ep!

The overall feel of Mod Sun's album Wealth, Health, and Success is refreshing as the light heart beats also the intuitive lyrical content is needed in the hip hop game.

Omarion rocking with MMG lately as he frequently jumps on tracks with Rick Ross, Wale, and Meek Mill. As for Omarion he steadily has proven to bring the ladies out of the covers and have them dancing or maybe even keeping them their for an overnight stay, either way Omarion's new video M.I.A. ft. Dom Chronicles - Midwestside

Our KC homie Dom Chronicles sent us his latest video Midwestside, and being from KS Dom plays the home turf with ease. Staying smooth with his delivery, Dom knows how to represent the middle of the map. Presented by Black Belt Society and 19/90 Never the visuals directed/edited by Kendu, some dope stuff from the good ole Midwest.

As for Dom and his music, Dom's lyrical substance has more to offer than the average emcees by having more depth in verbal usage and having a wide range in description. Dom also has a sense of humble arrogance that will slap haters in the face if they have an issue with his music.

Midwestside is a track that shows diversity in our hip hop culture in the Midwest, we get all types of music to cross the Great Plains. Dom Chronicles displays some serious hip hop skills on his latest video, check out some legit KC hip hop music!

Kendrick Lamar - The Heart Pt. 3 (Ft. Ab-Soul & Jay Rock)

The Compton "good kid" is poised to release his second album on tuesday, though he felt it necessary to provide his fans and listeners with the third installment of 'The Heart." In his typical narrative style, Kendrick delivers a smooth, string-laden tune that has immediate appeal. Accompanied by Black Hippy family members Ab-Soul and Jay Rock, the three build out a heartfelt picture of where they come from.  Kendrick's asks the listener "If [they'll] let hip-hop die October 22nd" in an assuredly underpinned request for people to buy his new album on October 23rd--which you should! Checkout all three of the songs in "The Heart" series below.

XV, Freddy High, Sez Batters, The Awesome Sound - Squarians Volume 1

Released yesterday the latest mixtape from the Squarian nation is on steady repeat here at Midwest Sounds. Squarians Volume 1 is the mixtape and it finally signify what it means to be a square. Not only are listeners lucky enough to get XV on the tape, they also get Freddy High, Sez Batters, and beats produced by The Awesome Sound. Establishing their image as squares and making it relevant has been the mission for XV, Freddy, Sez, and Awesome by making music that has a little aggressiveness towards those who overlooked the #L7's.

One of the tracks on the mixtape pays tribute to the Jayhawks of KU, Now Let's Go In  was the master mind of The Awesome Sound who produced one of the illest beats with the Rock Chalk Chant sampled into the track. XV and Freddy feel like they have something to prove and they sure did! #Blue&Red cop car lights.

That's not all, there is more with this album, other highlights to listen for is Be There Be Square produced by the homie Xaphoon Jones. L7 Party is a freestyle that Freddy, Sez, XV straight go hammer with the bars. For the smokers out there check out That Bowl it speaks volumes to so many of those who hang out with Mary Jane.

Overall the mixtape has the ability to bring all elements of hip hop music, edginess, heavy bars, catchy lingo, and Squarian references to make the album come back full circle, ironically!

The Man With The Iron Fists Soundtrack (Streaming Free)

A great treat to us all was released for live streaming today. The star-studded soundtrack for The Man With The Iron Fists was officially released for our listening pleasure, and it surely does not disappoint. You really get a variety of past and present heavy hitters of the hip-hop industry, both mainstream and the more underground types. Among the notables are: Kanye West, Pusha T, Idle Warship (Talib Kweli and RES), Flatbush Zombies, Kool G Rap, Freddie Gibbs, Wiz Khalifa, Danny Brown, Pharoahe Monch, seemingly every member of the prolific Wu-Tang Clan, and as added treats, there are a couple representations of other genres, such as with The Black Keys and Corrine Bailey Rae. Listen and enjoy the soundtrack with the player below!

From the website:

"Quentin Tarantino presents The Man With the Iron Fists, an action-adventure inspired by kung-fu classics as interpreted by his longtime collaborators RZA and Eli Roth. Making his debut as a big-screen director, co-writer and leading man, RZA alongside an exciting international cast led by Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero who all descend on one fabled village in China for a winner- takes-all battle for a fortune in gold.

Blending astonishing martial-arts sequences from some of the masters of this world with the signature vision he brings as the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan and as one of hip-hop's most dominant figures of the past two decades, RZA embarks upon his most ambitious, stylized and thrilling project to date. Joining Crowe, RZA and Liu in the cast are Rick Yune, Jamie Chung, Cung Le, Dave Bautista, Byron Mann, Daniel Wu and Pam Grier."

Jet Moran - Midas

Spazing out and sending verbal shots to weak emcees Jet Moran releases a new track called Midas an interlude to his fully loaded SuperBad album.

Jetty Prime has a little chip on his shoulder with this single sending the message of sick bars are expected when he steps to the mic. Jet's ability to deliver an edgy double time and lyrical metaphors sets him aside most aspiring emcees in the Kansas area.

Fresh into the game, Jet's depth in musical fundamentals are technically sound and his punch lines are more than enough to knock listeners socks off. Jet's 'Midas flow' only further supports that it takes a little bit of intelligent thought to put a legit hip hop single out.

MWS Interview With Big K.R.I.T.

It is a small world after all, we bet Big K.R.I.T. never would have guessed that he had some huge country cuzzin' fans from Kansas. We also bet that K.R.I.T. wouldn't have guess that he would be doing an interview with some Kansas boys that have deep roots in Meridian MS.

The night started with a jump off show at The Granada July 16th and The Live From The Underground Tour. Jon Connor, Tito Lopez, Casey Veggies, and Big Sant all held it down for the opening of the night. Then the return of Big K.R.I.T. comes to be as he performed his songs from his newly released album Live From The Underground. Next, we found ourselves with our homie Matt Steele of Matt Steele Media setting up for the interview with K.R.I.T.!

Big K.R.I.T. gave us some incredible insight about his collab with his partner Yelawolf, and also filled us in with some unlikely features he's working with Death Cab For A Cutie, and Cold Play. Both features would be a treat for all fans of music. We also stumped the King of Meridian with a question that took Krizzle "way way back" to the days of when he played baseball at Highland Park and chilled by Mr. Rogers burger joint. The connection between blogger and artist came full circle when we pulled out our old school licenses plate from Meridian MS circa 79', and blew Big K.R.I.T.'s mind away. He really understood that we had mad respect for his musical talents meanwhile displaying and representing our hometowns in eloquent fashion.

With the crazy contacts in his eyes, Hopsin is lyrical beast that has a unique delivery and style that separates himself from the game. Thanks to our friends over at Rap Genius, they broke down the lyrics on Hopsin's BET Cypher. Stacked up with some heavy hip hop hitters like ScHoolBoy Q, Mac Miller, and Mystikal, Hopsin had to bring some bars and sucessfully did so!

Courtesy of RapGenius.Com
[Verse 2: Hopsin]
Grab your Slurpee and popcorn, I'm bout to make it hot for 'em

They didn't even invite me to this shit, man I just walked on

If I didn't come, then every bit of hope for rap is all gone

I'm ill, in the past you thought I wasn't, but you thought wrong

"Hop I lost respect for you, I'm pissed and you just lost a fan
All you do is diss, I'll never bump your album "Raw" again"

If what I say gets on your last nerve, then holla man

But truth is, y'all can't touch me like Pac's hologram

Don't dare to try it if you scared of dyin'

I'm terrifyin', the real Boogie Man, who even got your parents hidin'

When you're sleeping, I'll find your window, and just stare inside it

I'm a animal, momma raised me inside a lair with lions

Prepare for violence
, Funk Volume's an unfair alliance
We embarrass giants
, and rip mic's till we get laryngitis
My wave's sitting like a sandstorm, and I know what you mad for
Cause I'm living my dream, and yours

Wale - Arrival (prod. by Ceezy)

Just for hell of it, Wale dropped a new track on twitter for his fan today. Wale is poet on the mic and he doesn't just bring lyrics to his there is also a certain identity to Wale's delivery that is music unlike anyone else in the game. Down to the idea of putting an element of creativity, is key to Wale's Arrival track, and his vision of Ceezy's produced beat.

If Wale wants to separate himself from the image wash out of MMG, Wale has to able to out smart the game, with a little edgy flow and in depth lyrical content might be the right combination to keep Wale in the debated top 10 in hip hop artists out right now.

The west coast sound combined with respected lyrical content from Tech and the others made this a song to rock out to.

Barack Obama - 99 Problems (But Mitts Not One)

With the Presidential race on its way, let the low blows and characteristic political jabs begin. This little video of Barack Obama spittin' on Jay-Z's 99 Problems beat popped up in the hip hop community and by far President Obama went straight gangsta by laying the smack down on Mitt. Premiered on DJ Lantern's radio station, DJ Drama's latest single Clouds off of his newest project Quality Street Music features some heavy hip hop hitters. Rick Ross, Curren$y, Migeul, and Pusha T all jump on this track.

The much awaited project from DJ Drama is gonna be jammed packed full of hip hop stars. Even though it was a radio rip, Clouds is a song that has a well rounded sound for all the emcees to showcase some skills.

The twist to this joint is Miguel's ability to bring listeners to the clouds with his smother voice, while Curren$y the Jet setter lays down some mean bars. Rick Ross' baller status only perpetuates the idea of being in the clouds and Pusha T drops some heavy heat on the track with a smooth delivery. Kendrick Lamar - The Art of Peer Pressure

K Dot is hot right now! Kendrick Lamar is hitting the hip hop game by storm and there isn't anything slowing him down. Kendrick's new joint The Art of Peer Pressure was leaked and it is spreading like wild fire. Rightfully so, the song jams!

The Art of Peer Pressure darker under tone makes the song have more feeling and character. The song plays as a conscious acting upon peer pressure. The slower beat and clearly pronounced words help listeners envision Kendrick's body of work in the game.

K Dot's delivery is classic and the beat is trippy manye, but overall the message is what listeners should be on the lookout for as Kendrick's music can take twists and turns to present his message.

Curren$y - Jet Life (feat. Big K.R.I.T and Wiz Khalifa)

The idea of Curren$y getting on another track with two of his peers Wiz Khalifa and Big K.R.I.T. happened again on Spitta's The Stoned Immaculate. Jet Life is a spin off of Curren$y's customary day of being a first class rider with Wiz his partner in crime. 'Jet Life to the Next Life' is the motto with Spitta, K.R.I.T., and Wiz doing work on the hip hop game. Humble and true to their calling the three emcees dropped the video to  Jet Life, as the classic form of Curren$y shows with him speeding at the wheel of a Ferrari and Wiz rollin' up a jet for the both of them.

J. Cole - I'm A Fool

Self produced and lyrically acclaimed, J. Cole does it all on I'm A Fool on track! The idea of artists actually making their own music is far fetched nowadays, and thanks to this new track from J. Cole, the hip hop community can still recognize legit music still exist.

The heavy sample in the hook brings some heavy soul to the track. The Carolina roots are definitely showcased in J. Cole's music, highlights of 9th Wonder can be comparable. Lyrically J. Cole outshines his generation of hip hop right now, few are as well thought, have as confident delivery, and possess a marketable style then Cole. The guy has talent and the I'm A Fool track proves the point.

DJ Drama ft. Cee-Lo, Jadakiss, Young Jeezy, Nipsey Hussle - Never Die

Paying tribute to the good that die young, DJ Drama steps on the scene with Never Die featuring some hip hop talents that bring fire to the track.

Cee-Lo Green lays down a harmonic hook, not to forget the monster bars that come from Jadakiss, Nipsy Hussle and Young Jeezy.

The Cardiak produced beat is smooth and plays to the melody of the three emcees. The thought process throughout the entire track shines as each emcee writes about the loves ones lost but never forgotten. They also foreshadow their own questionable future, as each artists feels the threat of the potential uncertainty so their grind is always 100%.

Follow Curren$y Spitta around in this new 'vlog' post. He highlights hitting up Rock the Bells New Jersey, chillin with the KushedGod himself Smoke DZA, and also talking sneakers. A new track uncovered by a Pittsburgh DJ, called "Goin' Places" from Pittsburgh's own Wiz Khalifa and featuring Mac Miller.

Kendrick Lamar Ft. Young Jeezy - Westside, Right On Time

Kendrick Lamar and Young Jeezy jump on a track together during TDE fan Appreciation week. Kendrick and Jeezy complement one another on the Westside, Right On Time track, as Kendrick stepped his hook delivery and Jeezy pushed himself lyrically.

The ability of Kendrick Lamar to combine his vernacular flow with his west coast style has allowed for the kid from Cali to get respect from major players in the game like Dr. Dre and Scarface, and now Kendrick has done it again by impressing Young Jeezy.

Ab Soul - Black Lip Bastard (Remix) Ft. Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q & Jay Rock

Rocksmith Presents Ab Soul's newest Black Hippy visual to Black Lip Bastard (Remix). Ab Soul teams up with by far one of the most lyrical trio Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and Jay Rock. This isn't for the light at heart, only serious emcees could withstand these bars on the Willie B production. Black Lip Bastard single is off of Ab Soul's Lp Control System, which can be found on iTunes.

XV - Rise (New Single) & Granada Aug. 16th Preview

XV is steady in the stu kicking out some more #Squarian music, and his latest one is called Rise produced by The Awesome Sound. XV is coming off a tour, successful mixtape, and even got married in July.

XV's new single Rise intensely gives listeners a track that shows a darker side of XV. There is a little chip on the shoulder of Vizzy, as the #L7 kid from Kansas has something to prove to the hip hop community.

Back here in the land of OZ, XV has done plenty for the Kansas hip hop game and continues to represent the state well in the hip hop industry. With a strong lyrical content that is innovative and creative as XV's bars are consistent to his intelligent penmanship. This has allowed XV to withstand critics and haters that might have over looked him in the past. XV has the ability to stay true to his craft by staying current with metaphoric popular culture events that we can relate to as listeners. XV also makes sure that the swagger within his delivery of his words are fierce and has some sting to the cutter lines.

Vizzy is surely a busy guy this summer and he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down with a homecoming show in Lawrence KS at The Granada August 16th. It's an all ages shows that has plenty of live music. XV has a full live band accompanying him and will most likely play some new music from his Popular Culture mixtape.

Make sure to not miss out on the XV show in Lawrence KS at the Granada Thursday August 16th!!! We have tickets so feel free to hit us up on Twitter or email us at midwestsounds@gmail.com for the early bird tickets.

Big K.R.I.T. - What U Mean Ft. Ludacris (Video)

Our Country Cuzzin' Big K.R.I.T. has been killing it on his summer tour across the states and his latest label released video What U Mean featuring Ludacris keeps the Krizzle music flowing.

Off of the Live From The Underground album, What U Mean is a classic dirty south jam that fits K.R.I.T.'s form of delivery and having an icon like Luda on the track only heightens the hip hop credibility for K.R.I.T.

J. Cole - The Cure

J. Cole is wanting to make new music, and that he did with a new track that shows a more artistic style from Cole.

The Cure shows the development that J. Cole has adapted to his game. The Cure is a lighter form of J. Cole and lyrically has depth, it seems like Cole has a new direction in his musical career.

J. Cole coming from the Carolina area where hip hop genius is deeply rooted with the 9th Wonder camp down there running things. Cole has the resume to back up his game, so the continued success will only maintain.

FLY LY x I'm Doing It

Our NY homie FLY LY is out with another joint called I'm Doing It. Coming out from the east coast FLY LY has a tough road to get to the top in the game with power houses names not to mention the Mecca of hip hop starting in New York City.

This single pays tribute to the success that comes from grind work as FLY LY stays humble to his craft through ways of creative lyrical content and a grimy NYC sound.

Take a look at FLY LY at WWW.FLYYORKCITY.COM

Bieber Fever On 2012 Teen Choice Awards with Big Sean

It cracks us up here at MwS when Justin Bieber gets all thugged out and tries to go hip hop. The youngin' is talented singer and can get away with posing as a emcee especially when Big Sean jumping on stage with teen pop idol. This years Teen Choice Awards had the two artists on this year and basically had the two stand on stage while thousands of screaming girls go insane. Don' know if the kid did any actual singing, but can't knock the Biebster as he racks up the doe and the fame.

The high production performance is typical Justin Bieber entertainment but really all you can hear is the Bieber hysteria in the background.

Nas - Life Is Good

Nas is taking hip hop back to its roots, with his new album Life is Good. Front to back the entire album is the pinnacle of hip hop by 'taking them back when hip hop made sense' and how the love for music all started for Nas. The appreciation of life is Nas' message in this album, moreover the sounds and lyrical content is by far some of Nas' best stuff as the raw grittiness of NYC streets live through his music.

Nas is on his 'A' game, and no one can possess the musical talents that Nas has. He mastered the craft of hip hop music and songs off the album like Back When, Reach Out feat Mary J Blige, plus more incredible tracks prove that Nas still is the quintessential hip hop king.

With heavy hip hop induced flavor in the entire album, Nas still takes the necessary steps in adding a few features that bring a twist that all hip hop albums need. Just to name a few, Swizz Beatz, Anthony Hamilton, Rozay (Rick Ross), the queen Mary J. Blige, and Miguel; Life Is Good brings all the elements of hip hop together, but Nas takes his music to poetic heights with this instant classic.

Enjoy the entire Nas album is streamed - Life Is Good

Recently Nas was on the Colbert Report to perform a single off of Life Is Good The Don.
